Who Was The Prophet Like Moses – Mohammed or Jesus?

Islam teaches that Mohammed was a prophet and the one likened unto Moses, as mentioned in Deut. 18:15-19. Christianity teaches the Lord Jesus is that prophet:

The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own brothers. prophet like mosesYou must listen to him. For this is what you asked of the LORD your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly when you said, “Let us not hear the voice of the LORD our God nor see this great fire anymore, or we will die.”  The LORD said to me: “What they say is good. I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers; I will put my words in his mouth, and he will tell them everything I command him. If anyone does not listen to my words that the prophet speaks in my name, I myself will call him to account.

Are the Moslem’s claim about Mohammed being likened unto Moses true or have they somehow been misinformed, as with God’s choice of Isaac, and not Ishmael, for his covenant promise?  What is the evidence about the prophet likened unto Moses?

Peter

Peter preached the following and referred to the prophet likened unto Moses. He believed that prophet was the Lord Jesus:

Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord, and that he may send the Christ, who has been appointed for you–even Jesus. He must remain in heaven until the time comes for God to restore everything, as he promised long ago through his holy prophets. For Moses said, “The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own people; you must listen to everything he tells you. Anyone who does not listen to him will be completely cut off from among his people.” (Acts 3:19-23)

Though it may sound strange for Peter to refer to the Lord Jesus as a prophet, make no mistake about it, that Jesus was/is also much more than just a prophet likened unto Moses! The Lord Jesus has over 100 titles and names of various types reflecting his infinite importance in all spiritual matters, including receiving worship and being God in the flesh. Jesus, though a prophet like Moses, is worthy of greater honor:

Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself. For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything. Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house, testifying to what would be said in the future. But Christ is faithful as a son over God’s house. And we are his house, if we hold on to our courage and the hope of which we boast. (Heb 3:3-6)

The Lord Jesus Is The Prophet

The sinless Lord Jesus declared that the words he spoke came from the Father. Furthermore, to reject Jesus’ teachings is to condemn yourself, which is also related to the prophet likened unto Moses:

There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; that very word which I spoke will condemn him at the last day. For I did not speak of my own accord, but the Father who sent me commanded me what to say and how to say it. I know that his command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say. (John 12:48-50)

The prophet like Moses would also have to be Jewish like Moses, which Jesus was. prophet like mosesMoses produced powerful miracles and signs, which Jesus also performed, but more of. Moreover, both the Lord Jesus Christ and Moses were powerful deliverers, with Jesus being much better and greater than Moses. Mohammed was not sinless, had no recorded signs or miracles in the Koran and was not a Jew. The overwhelming evidence clearly shows the Lord Jesus is the prophet likened unto Moses and much more. He also has the words of eternal life (John 6:68), which point us all to him:

And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. (1 John 5:11,12)

To have Jesus like that is to have rest for your soul (Mt. 11:28,29) and to be delivered from sin’s addictions. True Christians can relate to that precious truth:

But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. (Rom 6:22)
