Besse Cooper, One Of The World’s Oldest, Dies

Besse Cooper from Georgia recently died at the age of 116 years of age. In January of 2011 she was declared the world’s oldest person. besse cooperHer last day on earth included having her hair set and watching a Christmas video. After her death, her son said,

With her hair fixed it looked like she was ready to go.  ( http://news.yahoo.com/woman-116-listed-worlds-oldest-dies-ga-002936971.html )

Besse Cooper’s son definitely exhibits symptoms of spiritual heart disease by saying it looked like she was ready to go, since the primary preparations for death are spiritual and have nothing to do with one’s physical appearance. God looks on the heart, not upon one’s physical appearance (1 Sam. 16:7). Blessed are the pure in heart for they will see God (Mt. 5:8) and our hearts are purified by faith in the Lord Jesus (Acts 15:9).

Methuselah and Adam Were Much Older Than Besse Cooper

Methuselah is the oldest person on record. He lived 969 years (Gen. 5:27), much longer than Besse Cooper. Noah lived 950 years (Gen. 9:29). Adam lived 930 years (Gen. 5:5), but a Bible mystery regarding Adam’s age is, when do we start counting? Since Adam was created, and not born in the normal way, is his 930 years from the Fall to the end of his physical life or do we start counting from the point of his creation and during the time he still had eternal life and lived in Eden for an undesignated period of time? If the latter is his real age, than Adam might have lived tens of thousands of years all total or even more!

Methuselah’s Death and Great Flood Time Line

Getting back to Methuselah, if one would do some simple math, the figures show that he died the same year as the Great Flood! methuselahIf he died in the Flood is not known, but he did die the same year as the Flood. If he did die in the Flood, he was ungodly and perished since the only ones saved were the eight people in Noah’s ark (1 Pet. 3:20). Methuselah would then be another example of a person who had a very godly parent, but was ungodly himself, since Enoch was his father! Enoch is the man who walked with God for 300 years and was no more (Gen. 5:21-24).

To check the time line of the Great Flood and the death of Methuselah consider the following:

  •  Methuselah was 187 years old when Lamech was born (Gen. 5:25)
  •  Lamech was 182 years old when Noah was born (Gen. 5:28-29). That means Methuselah was 369 years old when Noah was born.
  •  600 years after Noah’s birth the killer flood waters came (Gen. 7:6). If we add 600 years to 369 years, the age of Methuselah when Noah was born, we get 969 years. That is the exact age of Methuselah when he died (Gen. 5:27) AND it was also the same year as the Great Flood!

If Methuselah died and went to hell, can you imagine the mountain of sins he had on his record! He also must have heard his grandson, Noah, preach since Noah was called a preacher of righteousness (2 Pet. 2:5). Some people have a longer time to find peace with God to be ready to die. Dear reader, do you have peace with God NOW? Carefully go over 1 Cor. 6:9-11, Eph. 5:5-7 and Rev. 21:8 for starters. To put your hand to the plow and look back shows you are NOT fit for God’s kingdom (Lk. 9:62).
