The Serial Killer

Our dark world is filled with trouble and troublemakers of various types. Of all the troublemakers, perhaps the serial rapist/killer is the most repulsive, along with the child molester. That however, can only be true from a natural point of view, which is limited because it excludes the spiritual realm.

Spiritual Serial Killers

serial killers false prophets false teachers When the spiritual is considered, without doubt, the religious and popular false teachers are the most dangerous serial killers of all time. They are the worst of the worst. Why? Because they are misleading SOULS into an eternal and unquenchable fire forever. The consequences of their evil teachings will infinitely affect their victims in a much worse way. Unlike the serial killer in the natural, including Ted Bundy and the BTK serial killer, who could only kill the physical body, the spiritual serial killers (or false teachers) will destroy the most valuable possession of a man, his precious SOUL. The Lord Jesus said:

What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul? (Mark 8:36,37)

Jesus called false prophets ravenous wolves in sheep’s clothing (Mt. 7:15). Though they can look harmless, they are extremely dangerous to the sheep (the Christians). They are hardened spiritual serial killers! Be on your guard. Just because someone is an established religious leader doesn’t mean he is representing the truth of God. One example of many is Pope John Paul II, who was F-A-R from sound though accepted and praised by non-Catholics like Billy Graham and Pat Robertson! Remember: How guarded you are now, as well as what you believe and do will affect you throughout eternity. Be careful and alert. Your soul is your number one prized possession. Don’t let the spiritual serial killers adversely you!

Jesus Christ, King of the Jews

king of the jews There are various ways to prove the deity of Christ from God’s word. One of the ways is to find out who is the King of the Jews? The answer is repeated in various ways throughout the Old Testament. Here are two:

I am the LORD, your Holy One, Israel’s Creator, your King. (Isa 43:15)

For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; it is he who will save us. (Isa 33:22)

That proves YHWH (God) is the King of the Jews. So, why would Jesus claim the EXACT same for himself, unless it was true?

“Are you the king of the Jews?” asked Pilate. “Yes, it is as you say,” Jesus replied. (Mark 15:2)

Jesus always told the truth. He actually claimed indirectly to be God by saying he was king of the Jews! [A comparison of 1 Tim. 6:15 and Rev. 17:14 shows Jesus is also YHWH because he is the king of kings.] It is too bad so many people miss that fact about Jesus’ identity and don’t rightly worship him, because of his humanity. The humanity of Christ is the point people often stumble over to their own harm. They can’t conceive that the Lord Jesus could be both God and man at the same time. The Bible teaches he is both God and man, just like it also teaches he is both the high priest (Heb. 4:14) and sin sacrifice (Heb. 9:26)! Don’t be deceived by a false teacher. It could cost you your eternal salvation!

I Go To Church

When Christians evangelize, it is very common to hear religious people say, I go to Church, as they ignore the gospel message and go their way.i go to church The mere fact that they answer that way shows their walk with God is shallow, if indeed it even exists. To go inside of a church building means nothing regarding eternal life. In fact, to go to the wrong assembly where dangerous false teachings are being taught and where lukewarmness and worldliness prevail can subtly and quickly lead to spiritual death! It is only a pure heart before God which really counts for salvation (Mt. 5:8). In different words, the Lord Jesus said:

Not everyone who says to me, “Lord, Lord,” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. (Mat 7:21)

The “I go to church” mentality is also falsified when one realizes that a demon possessed person was in a Capernaum synagogue, a type of church, in Jesus’ day (Mark 1:21-26). That shows the type of people who can go to a religious assembly!

From personal experience, when I [Dan Corner] was unsaved, I went to a Catholic church. It did nothing for me except fill me with Catholic false concepts about God, salvation and the spiritual realm in general. Furthermore, to gather with others who profess salvation could also do more harm than good, as happened at Corinth:

In the following directives I have no praise for you, for your meetings do more harm than good. (1 Cor 11:17)

Hence, to “go to church” as people tend to say in our day is not the ultimate. The Lord Jesus wants something different and much more significant. He wants to sit on the throne of our heart and reign supreme! Is that where Jesus is in your life or are you just a mere church goer, as any religious unsaved person can be? This is a heaven or hell issue! Take it to heart.

The Words Of Eternal Life

words of eternal lifeThere have been many religious leaders over the millennia, but only one ever had the impeccable and awe-inspiring credentials and could produce the results, which the Lord Jesus did and has. Because Jesus is the sinless Son of God and God in the flesh, who resurrected bodily, he brightly outshines all of the others who died and their bodies rotted in the grave.

Besides that, all the other religious leaders spoke empty words as they tried to help people with their sins and immorality. The various sincere devotees of the many false religions remained slaves to sin, because they were misled by some false teacher. But it was and is different for the followers of the Lord Jesus Christ. Why? Because Jesus has the words of eternal life. Peter knew that and acknowledged it openly:

Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” (John 6:68)

So what words would that refer to? Many times Jesus pointed people to himself for eternal life (Mk. 8:35; Jn. 5:39,40; Jn. 6:35; etc.). He told people to repent and leave their life of sin (Lk. 13:3,5; Mk. 1:15; Jn. 8:11). He repeatedly warned of the dangers of hell because of sin (Mt. 5:28-32; Mt. 13:41,42; Mk. 9:42-47; etc.). He also told his disciples to be on guard (Mk. 13:9, 23, 33; ), hold on (Rev. 2:25; 3:11), watch out so we would not be deceived (Mt. 24:11, 24; etc.) and stated we would have to endure to the end to be saved (Mt. 10:22; Mk. 13:13; Rev. 2:10,11; etc.).

Even though Jesus spoke the precious words of eternal life, only the ones who wisely follow his directives get forgiven and keep their salvation. They alone have a new heart of love. They alone are slaves of righteousness. They alone are like the ones who put into practice his word and are likened to the man who built his house on rock (Mt. 7:24). Dear reader, can you identify with such words of eternal life?

The Man Pleaser

man pleaserTo be a man pleaser in Scripture is not a compliment. In fact, it is used in a way which shows it is the opposite of being a servant of Christ and a God pleaser! Therefore, it is a very serious spiritual problem. Ponder this Scripture:

Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ. (Gal 1:10)

So what’s the difference? The man pleaser wants to satisfy one or more people and conducts himself accordingly. In contrast, the person trying to win the approval of God is determined to do God’s will, regardless how anyone might react. He believes human opinion is much less important than God’s opinion of him. Paul was definitely a God pleaser, not a man pleaser. The context of Gal. 1:10 shows why that is so:

But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned! (Gal 1:8,9)

Paul’s adamant emphasis on the one and only gospel showed he was not a man pleaser. He made it clear that he himself could be eternally condemned (go to hell) as quickly as any other, even an angel from heaven, if he declared a false gospel. The anathema he referred to should strike terror in the hearts of all who want to preach an easy to receive social gospel, which doesn’t upset anyone. Preaching God’s word is a very serious responsibility. Eternal SOULS are on the line. It takes godly teachers, who are wholeheartedly dedicated to God’s TRUTH, to lead people the way they should go spiritually and to reap eternal life. All others will prove to be blind guides and spiritual snares in the end, as they lead people to the fiery furnace along with themselves. Jesus taught about such people:

Leave them; they are blind guides. If a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit. (Mat 15:14)

Eternal Security Proof Text

The most frequently used argument given by the proponents of eternal security is a total misuse of John 10:28. Follow along carefully and it will become apparent how the eternal security teachers have distorted that Scripture. John 10:28 reads:

I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand.

By avoiding the immediate context of verse 27 — which identifies who gets eternal life, will never perish and can’t be snatched from Jesus’ hand — the eternal security teachers are able to conceal to WHOM Jesus was referring! The context exposes their serious error. Verse 27 reads:

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. (John 10:27)

In other words, Jesus is teaching it is the sheep —described as those who listen to his voice, are known by him and especially they follow him (continuous tense) — who will never perish and will not be plucked from his hand. They are the ones given eternal life. But that is not the way John 10:28 is taught. The eternal security teachers have misused John 10:28 to allow for unrepentant backsliders to have eternal life, when it not only doesn’t fit the context, it is the opposite of what Jesus taught there and other places! Again, backsliders are not following Jesus! They are not his sheep. Therefore, John 10:28 does not apply to them.

To misuse John 10:28 to teach once saved always saved, as often done in our day, is to give a dangerous false sense of salvation to lost people, who desperately need to repent, but are convinced they are still in relationship with God.

NOTE: The license to sin teachers are dangerous blind guides. Do NOT be deceived by their Scripture twisting to allow for wickedness, as listed in 1 Cor. 6:9,10 and Rev. 21:8, and salvation at the same time. Sin has pleasure for a short time, but it will drag you to hell. It is still the issue! God bless you.

Spiritual Death

At present, many wrongly believe there are only two possible positions regarding salvation among professing “born again” Christians, that is, one is either once saved always saved or he was never saved to begin with. They exclude the prodigal son type, who once had salvation, but afterwards left the Father and wandered off into sin and became spiritually dead and lost (Luke 15:24). The book publishers, with the help of the radio and TV stations, have successfully deceived multitudes of Bible believers about that and God’s message regarding eternal life in general. To most, spiritual death for the righteous is an impossibility, even though it is taught all through the Bible (Ezek 18:24; 33:18; Rom. 8:13; James 1:14-16; James 5:19,20; etc.). In fact, the very first time God spoke to man it was a warning about spiritual death through sin (Gen 2:16,17), which the devil quickly countered with his first lie. BTW, the essence of once saved always saved is the very core of that same lie from the devil (Gen. 3:4). Don’t be deceived.

Once Saved Always Saved

Once saved always saved is defined just as it sounds, that is, once a person becomes a Christian he will forever remain saved. Sometimes the same doctrine is called eternal security or even the perseverance of the saints by the Calvinists, but they mean the same. The omitted part of the general description of once saved always saved is, the proponents also think one will remain saved regardless how they sin, become doctrinal apostates, fruitless, lukewarm, unforgiving, hateful, greedy, etc.! Hence, they believe there are two types of adulterers, two types of murderers, two types of thieves, two types of liars, two types of witches, two types of swindlers, etc. – one type is saved because of a past point of faith and the other type of adulterer, murderer, thief, liar, witch and swindler isn’t saved because he never, at any pointed in his entire life, believed on Jesus! To them, one’s present behavior is irrelevant in revealing who is a Christian and who isn’t. In fact, they don’t believe you can say another person is unsaved, even if he is a notorious serial rapist and murderer, since he could have had faith in Jesus at an earlier time. The BTK serial killer is an example of that. That is critical information, which should be readily understood about that doctrine, but often is concealed. When it is understood, it becomes apparent that it is a license to sin and the same kind of counterfeit grace message, which Jude 3,4 states ungodly people teach.

[Dan Corner has authored the most exhaustive and comprehensive book ever written refuting eternal security. That 801 page book (hardback or softback) is “The Believer’s Conditional Security,” and is readily available through Evangelical Books.]

Who Gets The Crown Of Life

crown of lifeOne of the most important spiritual crowns mentioned in the Bible is the crown of life. The all-important questions about it are:

  • What is the crown of life?
  • Who gets the crown of life?

The following two Scriptures answer both questions in a distinct way.

The Crown of Life Scriptures

Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. (James 1:12)

Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes will not be hurt at all by the second death. (Rev 2:10,11)

Now we can answer our question about who gets the crown of life. They are the people who:

  • truly love God and persevered under trial
  • are faithful to the point of death and escape the second death

The Crown of Life is NOT a Reward

To expand upon that, the recipients of the crown of life stood the test (James 1:12) and were faithful to the point of death (Rev. 2:10). They alone are the ones who get the crown of life. All others will be hurt by the second death (Rev. 2:11), another name for the fiery lake of burning sulfur (Rev. 21:8). That means all overcomers, who get eternal life in the age to come (Mark 10:30), will get the crown of life. Therefore, the crown of life is NOT given as a reward. It is given to all who enter God’s kingdom after their death, the same ones who endured to the end for salvation (Mt. 10:22).

Furthermore, the people who have their names in the book of life (Rev. 21:27) will be given a crown of life, because they are alive in Christ, our eternal life (1 John 5:11-13). They loved God, which means they OBEYED God (1 John 5:3). Does all of that describe you? In the end, will you get the crown of life?

The True God and Eternal Life

eternal life Jesus ChristOne of the most important facts about Jesus of Nazareth’s identity and eternal life is, eternal life is a person—namely the Lord Jesus Christ! What is the Scriptural evidence for such a bold statement?

We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true—even in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. (1 John 5:20)

Some people like the Jehovah’s Witnesses and Muslims who adamantly, but erroneously, oppose the deity of Christ would object and say 1 John 5:20 applies to the Father, because the same person is both the true God, as well as eternal life. So is there a connecting Scripture passage which will clarify this once and for all? Yes, and it is 1 John 1:1,2:

That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us.

Hence, John has clearly identified Jesus as eternal life in that passage, since he has to be the one their hands have touched, etc., but that same eternal life is also the true God, according to 1 John 5:20! What an important, but devastating revelation for the Jehovah’s Witnesses, Unitarians and all others who wrongly reject the deity of Christ. (There are also many other Scriptures, which teach the deity of Christ, besides that one.)

Getting back to salvation, once we know eternal life hinges upon us having Jesus, we can then better understand why we need to trust him 100% for our salvation, love him first and follow him faithfully till the end, so that we can enter God’s paradise kingdom after physical death and escape hell, where most will go (Matt. 7:13,14). Don’t forget, sin is still the issue with God!
