King Saul’s Spiritual Test

The true and living God is a God who spiritually tests us (Job 7:17,18; 1 Thess. 2:4; etc.). The Bible also says we are tested in the furnace of affliction. (Isa 48:10). king saul offering sacrifice We all get tested and sometimes very severely! The prophet Samuel was severely tested when he was just a boy and passed that  spiritual test. On the other hand, when King Saul was tested, he failed. That was a decisive point in Saul’s life! His instructions were simply to wait at Gilgal for Samuel’s arrival to make sacrifice, since he was a priest:

“Go down ahead of me to Gilgal. I will surely come down to you to sacrifice burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, but you must wait seven days until I come to you and tell you what you are to do.” (1 Sam 10:8)

Saul made the serious mistake of offering up the burnt offering himself. When Samuel confronted him, he said:

“What have you done?” asked Samuel. Saul replied, “When I saw that the men were scattering, and that you did not come at the set time, and that the Philistines were assembling at Micmash, I thought, ‘Now the Philistines will come down against me at Gilgal, and I have not sought the Lord’s favor.’ So I felt compelled to offer the burnt offering.” (1 Sam 13:11,12)

Saul Failed His Spiritual Test To Wait

Saul’s single act of disobedience was very costly:

“You acted foolishly,” Samuel said. “You have not kept the command the LORD your God gave you; if you had, he would have established your kingdom over Israel for all time. But now your kingdom will not endure; the LORD has sought out a man after his own heart and appointed him leader of his people, because you have not kept the Lord’s command.” (1 Sam 13:13,14)

King Saul’s sin was connected to pride and impatience. He actually thought he could perform a task which was exclusively set apart for the priests, which he was not! He acted foolishly, as Samuel said and failed his spiritual test. That spiritual test came when the pressure was on, just like your spiritual tests will be (and have been)! Get ready, more spiritual tests are coming your way, especially in these end times.

Will Those Who Have Never Heard the Gospel Be Lost

[Bible Question] In your opinion what happens to a person of any era, for example an 18 yr old native American circa ad 150, who dies while out hunting?  He was out to get food for his family and was trampled by a buffalo.  Where is his soul and why?  Let’s say he was a moral person trying to do right by his family and tribe. Your insights will be helpful to me thank you.

[Bible Answer] We can only assume for any person, including such a native American in ad 150, who was reaching out to God in his own limited way, that God would deal with him in a similar fashion as he dealt with Cornelius in Acts 10.  An angel appeared to him and told him to send to Joppa for Peter to come. [Peter then pointed him to the Lord Jesus Christ, the only “way” to the Father (John 14:6; Acts 4:12; 1 Tim. 2:5).] Please read Acts 10 for yourself.  Remember, we are not living in ad 150 and GOD IS JUST. God surely dealt with such an American in a just fashion. NO ONE WILL GO TO HELL WHO SHOULDN’T BE THERE. Regarding you and me, the Biblical message is clear. We must repent and place a faith in JESUS which will OBEY HIM (Acts 20:21 cf. 26:20). Please read this on the Biblical plan of salvation for more.  GOD BLESS YOU.

Get Free Beer, Come To Church

If you still think going to church is the spiritual cure-all and sole evidence beer at church one needs to go to heaven after death, perhaps this will help convince you otherwise! Popping up in various locations, from Lutheran to Christian Church to others, is Church-in-a pub! To attract new members across the USA some so-called churches will do more that distort the word of God! They will also offer free beer:

Beer For Church Attendants

Some patrons are understandably confused. They come in for a brew and there’s a religious service going on in their bar. They expected Trivia Night and they get the Holy Eucharist. ( http://www.npr.org/blogs/thesalt/2013/11/03/242301642/to-stave-off-decline-churches-attract-new-members-with-beer  )

Because of the dwindling number of church members a new of attracting people has developed. A senior pastor from Portland, Oregon comments:

Amy Piatt is senior pastor at First Christian Church Portland. She’s a sixth-generation Disciple of Christ and the originator of Beer & Hymns. She says in this postmodern age, what it means to attend church is changing. “It’s probably, in the very near future, not going to be at 10 am on Sunday morning wearing your best shoes and tie or dress,” she says. “It’s going to be something different. I mean, what that is, we are still finding out, we’re still learning together. But it’s still holy, God is still there, and that’s what’s most important.” To doubters, the Beer & God crowd has this pop quiz. What was the first miracle Jesus performed? Turning water into wine. ( ibid.  )

Dangerous Churches

Such new church trends do not change the holy standard set for God’s chosen people. It just substantiates the dark and deplorable condition many of the church congregations are now in. Instead of being a pillar of truth as they should be (1 Tim. 3:15), many are only worldly entertainment centers where the vilest unrepentant sinners can come and feel completely at ease as they consume alcohol free of charge without feeling condemned by the putrid preaching or the unholy examples which are present. These people are beyond lukewarm as they attend these dangerous churches. They’re dangerous, not like a snake handling church is, but because these liberal churches claim something related to God and eternal life that is a counterfeit. Perhaps, some of them have succumbed to the damnable heresy of once saved always saved preached by Ray Comfort, Joseph Prince and a multitude of others. Apparently they must think there are Christian drunks, which fits hand-in-glove with that counterfeit gospel.

How different such modern church leaders are to the Lord Jesus Christ who spoke the vital truths of eternal life, and if his own disciples walked away to never return (John 6:66) they walked away! At times, Jesus offended people, because the problem was in the hearts of the people offended, just as it is today. Speaking the vital truth of God at times has been wrongly labeled hate speech!

BTW, one atheist in a blog comment about these church-in-a-pub congregation, As an atheist, I find this hilarious, if not a bit sad. Even that atheist knows this is sad, but many professing Christians think they have freedom in Christ to do such as long as they get more people to attend their church services! As bad as this is, it will get worse as the days get darker. If you are a Bible-defined Christian, remember what Jesus taught:

Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning, (Luke 12:35)

Don’t let your spiritual lamps go out as 50% do in the last generation. It is spiritually fatal to not be ready when the Lord returns!

But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut. Later the others also came. “Sir! Sir!” they said. “Open the door for us!” But he replied, “I tell you the truth, I don’t know you.” Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour. (Mat 25:10-13)

Jesus didn’t say to them, I never knew you, but I don’t know you! Do you know Jesus now?

Pharmakeia Sorcery and the Bible

The issue of sorcery, the Greek word pharmakeia and the usage of medicine as mentioned in the Bible (Gal. 5:20; Rev. 9:21; 18:23) has become a controversy for some in our day. pharmakeia bible sorcerySuch has sometimes resulted in the undue condemnation of taking medicine needed by many sick and injured people! This controversy revolves around the Greek term pharmakeia, which is usually translated in English Bibles as sorcery, the magic arts or the like.

Sorcery and Pharmacy

Pharmakeia is the Greek word from which we get the English term pharmacy (drugstore). Because of that connection to the pharmacies of our day, where medication prescribed by medical doctors is dispensed to the sick and injured, some have wrongly concluded that taking any drug or medication is what is condemned in the New Testament (Gal. 5:19-21; Rev. 21:8; etc.)! While it is true that the term, pharmakeia has various possible translations, which include medication (as well as sorcery, magic and witchcraft), that doesn’t lead us to a Biblical condemnation of taking medicine.

Pharmakeia and Personal Experience

I remember speaking with individuals, on different occasions, who adamantly believed the Bible condemned taking medication from doctors. They essentially exonerated sorcery as being condemned in the NT, as their errant explanation radically shifted away from witchcraft to sick people taking medication for physical problems! [NOTE: Witchcraft is clearly condemned in the strongest terms in the Bible (Deut. 18:10-12) and taking a type of medicine to be physically healed is NOT (1 Tim. 5:23; 2 Kings 20:7).] One of those individuals had a close relative who was involved in a form of witchcraft, which might have been partly why he reasoned as he did. Also, I noticed the same types of people say only certain medications are condemned, while other medication dispensed through the same pharmacies are okay to take!

Pharmakeia Drugs in the Bible

So why is it erroneous to teach the Bible condemns pharmakeia as taking medication through a medical doctor for the sick or injured? Furthermore, if taking medications is condemned, then we should ask why has it never been translated that way by any reputable translation in any NT verse where the usage of pharmakeia is found? To answer why, we simply need to note that in witchcraft, sorcerers take drugs to get visions, hallucinations and to contact spirits! Hallucinogenic and mind altering type drugs are used in sorcery to contact spirits and to have visions for occult purposes. That is a key to understanding this whole issue. They don’t use their drugs to provide help to their weakened physical condition and they weren’t prescribed by medical doctors for such. Their drug usage is associated with witchcraft, which also extends to potions, spells and enchantments. Again, their usage of drugs has nothing to do with sick or injured people taking medication, as prescribed by medical doctors.

Pharmakeia In South American Sorcery

Witchcraft flourishes in South America among the Jivaro people.  Note their usage of the drug natema:

Witches flourish among the Jivaro. Probably few societies in the history of man have had as many witches per unit of population as they. They do not claim as a people to have a superior aptitude for magic. Rather, they are grateful for having available to them a superior means of uncovering occult talent. Natema, a powerful hallucinogenic drug, perhaps more effective as a mind-bender than LSD, is the key to Jivaro sorcery. Their witches say that natema is the door to the real universe, and that the world the non-user experiences is a pitiable illusion. Natema, the witches say, arouses the senses. Once its power has entered the human body, a man sees with his own eyes the world of the spirits that is invisible to him without the drug. The usual invisibility of the spirits does not reduce their impact on the world of man. Therefore, according to the Jivaro, it is only good sense to drink natema as the first step toward becoming an actor in the supernatural universe rather than an object being acted upon. (Witchcraft: Past And Present by Marika Kriss, Sherbourne Press Inc; 1970, p. 54-58, emphasis mine)

Pharmakeia and Medication

W. E. Vine comments, giving valuable relevant information on sorcery pharmakeia and medication:

In sorcery, the use of drugs, whether simple or potent, was generally accompanied by incantations and appeals to occult powers, with the provision of various charms, amulets, etc., professedly designed to keep the applicant or patient from the attention and power of demons, but actually to impress the applicant with the mysterious resources and powers of the sorcerer. (W. E. Vine, An Expository Dictionary Of New Testament Words, Fleming H. Revell Co., 1966, Vol. 4, p. 52, emphasis mine. )

One example of how pharmakeia is used in Scripture is found in Rev. 18:23. There it shows how pharmakeia (sorcery, witchcraft, magic or medication) of that type is used and the result:

And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries [pharmakeia] were all nations deceived. (Rev 18:23, KJV)

The nations were deceived by taking that type of pharmakeia (medication or sorcery), but it surely didn’t come from the pharmacies of our day, as prescribed by medical doctors for the purpose of helping the sick and/or injured. Moreover, it surely wasn’t swallowed as pills are, to be deceived!

Pharmakeia In Conclusion

Just like the Jehovah’s Witnesses who would deny a blood transfusion to save a life, some evangelicals have now also been misled to think taking medication is Biblically condemned! The trouble and premature deaths that have resulted from such were all in vain and unnecessary. Folks, if you live long enough, your physical body will weaken and die. The dying process can be slow where medication is needed to sustain life and ease pain. The Bible’s NT usage of pharmakeia does NOT condemn that, but surely does condemn sorcery (or witchcraft). If you have been involved in sorcery, you can be delivered from going to the lake of fire (Rev. 21:8), forgiven and set free from your sin addictions, but only through the Lord Jesus Christ.

But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars–their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death. (Rev 21:8)

Remember, the aforementioned truths about pharmakeia sorcery and the Bible.

Human Animal Marriage Has Arrived!

Believe it or not, human and animal so-called “marriage” has arrived here in the USA!human animal marriage Paul Horner, 35, married his dog Mac in San Francisco, California and it is considered legal! Furthermore, Paul Horner and his dog Mac will receive the same tax benefits that regular married people receive. How could such a stunning and wildly perverted thing occur and yet be considered legal? Here’s how. In the book of California’s State Laws and Regulations there is a little known law that was passed as the state was first forming in 1850. According to article 155, paragraph 10, it clearly states:

If a man and a man can get married and a woman and a woman can get married, if ever comes that day, then a human and animal will have the exact same rights to marriage in every eye of the law. God help us if this ever is to happen!

As bad as it is that men’s future wicked fashion clothing is designed to be effeminate, that takes a definite back seat to any human animal so-called marriage! These shocking dark acts are all stepping stones for what is before us, as we continue to speed towards much greater darkness and the rise of Antichrist. Are you ready to die for your faith?

Saul’s Lost Donkey Experience

Saul’s father lost a plural number of donkeys and sent Saul to search for them (1 Sam 9:3). Little did anyone know at the time, that mundane and menial event was much bigger and more important than it appeared! In vain, Saul and his servant searched for days for the donkeys, until they found Samuel, the prophet. Finding the donkeys was not the main issue anymore, as initially believed! (In fact, the donkeys had been found, 1 Sam. 9:20.) The real purpose behind the search for the donkeys was concealed and became revealed at the right time. It was for the anointing of Saul as king over Israel! God sometimes does things like this:

Now the day before Saul came, the LORD had revealed this to Samuel: “About this time tomorrow I will send you a man from the land of Benjamin. Anoint him leader over my people Israel; he will deliver my people from the hand of the Philistines. I have looked upon my people, for their cry has reached me.” When Samuel caught sight of Saul, the LORD said to him, “This is the man I spoke to you about; he will govern my people.”  (1 Sam 9:15-17)

Your Own Lost Donkey Search

How many times has God likewise sent you somewhere to meet someone or do something that seemed non-eventful, but was actually an important event in someone’s life. Perhaps you spoke a word of encouragement, handed out salvation literature or did some other act of righteousness (Mt. 6:1-20), which had important far reaching circumstances. As with Saul, your own lost donkeys experience was a blessing in disguise! Sometimes that can happen without being fully aware of it.

Did you notice that God told Samuel that he [God] sent Saul (v.16)? That too tells us something about how God operates. At times, God does operate in mysterious ways (but always in accord with Scripture)! Saul’s father initially sent Saul, but it was really God behind the event to get him to Samuel! Only on Judgment Day, will we have the opportunity to learn how many times God has sent us somewhere or to someone for some purpose. Dear saint, remember what Paul wrote:

Be very careful, then, how you live–not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. (Eph 5:15,16)

Not Real Christian Singles

Sexual immorality is rampant even among the professing Christian singles.christian singles It is reported that 80% of today’s so called Christian singles have been/are sexually immoral! To connect such wickedness with Biblical Christianity is to grossly distort the holy image of Christianity into something totally different, but that seems commonplace in our day!

“The evidence that an overwhelming number of young, unmarried Christians have slept with someone outside of marriage, suggests that the movement has struggled to convince its target population of its message.  Not only has nearly every star ditched his or her ring, a 2011 Relevant Magazine poll revealed that 80 percent of young, unmarried Christians have had sex and that two-thirds have been sexually active in the last year.  Facing the reality of these numbers, King said he wants to make sure that the new curriculum preaches a strong message of grace.” ( http://allchristiannews.com/80-of-all-christian-singles-are-fornicating/#.Uuw4d3ykkEg.facebook  )

The Real Grace or a Stronger Grace

Did you notice their mention of a “strong message of grace”? What an impossibility when today’s saving grace has been unjustly associated with the damnable heresy of once saved always saved, which has changed grace into a license to sin (Jude 3,4)! Saving grace, as taught by Paul, is much different than typically taught:

For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,  (Titus 2:11,12)

So that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.  (Titus 3:7)

False Christian Singles

Folks, not everyone who professes to be a Christian really is a Christian (Mt. 7:21). Furthermore, not everyone who professes to be single really is!  In our day, the divorced are claiming to be single, when they aren’t! They are divorced. Hence, labels can be very misleading. Remember, it is IMPOSSIBLE to be a Christian and sexually immoral at the same time. Christians are holy people who OBEY God. They have been set free from their sin addictions, serve God and are sons of God by faith in Jesus Christ (Gal. 3:26). Does that describe you now? Are you like the early Christians? YOU can be victorious over sexual immorality.

Men’s Wicked Fashion Clothing of The Future

Among other things, the world’s spiritual forecast is an increase of wickedness (Mt. 24:12; 2 Tit. 3:13; etc.) until satan worship is worldwide (Rev. 13:4). [There definitely will be NO worldwide revival, as some teach!] mens fashion clothingShocking as it may be, even men’s future fashion clothing seems to be instrumental in the spread of wickedness. They are in the sights of clothing designers and such is not wholesome, as these pictures show! Men’s future fashions have homosexuality written all over them. Homosexuality in our time is spreading, just as wickedness spread from Sodom and Gomorrah to the surrounding towns:

In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire. (Jude 7)

NOTE: The wicked towns surrounding Sodom and Gomorrah were Admah and Zeboiim (Dt. 29:23). Though lesser known they were also sexually immoral and perverted too. mens fashion clothingThe devil has always used false teachers to spread wickedness and in our generation he has also greatly used TV.  Now he is apparently going to try to spread homosexuality through men’s fashion clothing! Remember, for a man to dress like a woman, or vice versa, is condemned in Scripture:

A woman must not wear men’s clothing, nor a man wear women’s clothing, for the LORD your God detests anyone who does this. (Deu 22:5)

Scripture also says:

Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world. (Rom 12:2)

Again, don’t allow the world, including fashion designers, to force you into their ungodly mold for anything, including how a Christian should dress. You must learn to stand alone. Remember the boy Samuel! The Bible tells us about our clothing (and hair).  Let God’s truth alone control the way you dress. If you are a man, dress manly; if you’re a woman, dress like one, but modestly. GOD BLESS YOU.

What a Man the Boy Samuel Was

Like John the Baptist, Samuel had a miraculous birth.  Samuel was born because of his mother’s heart felt prayers and the vow she made to God for a son (1 Sam. 1:10,11). Just after Hannah weaned her baby, as young as he was, she took him to the house of the LORD (1 Sam. 1:24) — the tabernacle or tent of meeting– for his whole life to be given over to the LORD (1 Sam 1:28). samuelIn that environment, and away from his natural family, the boy Samuel had only wicked and spiritually tainted examples around him continuously (1 Sam. 2:29,30; 2:22; etc.)! Though he was raised in such a terrible spiritual environment example-wise, he stood all alone and like a rock for God’s truth and obedience. Though not clearly mentioned in scripture, Hannah’s prayers were surely with Samuel and had a great impact on his faithfulness.

Tested Before Eli

Eli was the chief character in the boy Samuel’s life at the tabernacle. The first time the word of God came to Samuel, as it does to prophets, Eli helped Samuel to recognize it (1 Sam. 3:4-9). In the morning, Eli wanted to know what God told him. The boy Samuel gave him the truth, even though it foretold Eli’s demise (1 Sam. 3:11-19)! Imagine how easy it would have been for Samuel to compromise, but he didn’t. He was faithful, exemplary and stood alone, regardless the unknown consequences of speaking the God’s truth. He was unlike many preachers in our day. Many would buckle out of fear of losing the favor of someone like Eli, but Samuel didn’t! Samuel was God’s servant, a man of godly character, and the truth went forth from him.

Samuel Remained True To God

While it is most impressive for the boy Samuel to stand strong like he did, his faithfulness to God, holy character and righteous standing never changed as he grew old, unlike Solomon’s heart. Samuel was a mighty example of the faith, but not many would recognize him as such in our day! He never sought for material riches or popularity. He was simply faithful, but had to stand alone to maintain such. Even his children were ungodly, unfortunately. Samuel’s uncompromising commitment to God was a vital blessing to all of Israel in his day. After he died, they suffered great loss because such a man of God was gone! We need more like Samuel in our day.
